The perfect small torch

Small torch, black, rechargeable via USB

A small torch is an essential tool for anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors. The main use case for me is spotting animals in the dark, especially at lambing time.

My criteria are; light-weight and bright with a good battery life and a really focussed beam.

My favourite small torch

Spoiler, after many years of using torches I actually have two recommendations!

1. The LE1000 Super Bright Hand Flashlight

I own a number of these. Their focussed beam is excellent (you can zoom right down to see things at about 100 metres) and the battery life is good. They are really small, and fit well in any pocket. It takes 3 AAA batteries.

It retails for around £11, but is regularly on offer.

A lightweight small torch that packs a punch.

2. The Super Bright LP3000 Tactical Flashlight

This is the big brother of the LE1000. The zoomable focussed beam reaches about 200 metres which is bonkers!

It’s slightly longer, but about the same weight, and as it is USB powered, it can be recharged on the go through a cigarette lighter.

Rechargable USB small torch with a 200 metre focussed beam

Love it! Retails around £21 but is worth every penny.

There are many different types of torches available, each with its own unique features and benefits. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at some of the most popular types of torches for use outdoors.

Other small torches are available!

  1. Flashlights: These are the most common type of torch and are typically small, portable, and easy to carry around. Powered by batteries or rechargeable batteries meaning they are great for providing light in a focused beam.
  2. Headlamps: Worn on the head, these torches allow the user to see and have both hands free while still being able to see. They are popular among hikers, campers, and anyone else who needs to have their hands free while navigating in the dark. Check out my favourite headtorch.
  3. Lanterns: These are larger torches that provide a wider beam of light which makes them great for illuminating a larger area. Powered by batteries or fuel, such as kerosene or propane.
  4. Emergency torches: These are torches that are specifically designed for use in emergency situations. They may have features such as a built-in radio, a flashing beacon, or the ability to charge your phone.
  5. Solar torches: powered by the sun, these torches do not require any batteries or fuel. They are environmentally friendly and are great for use in remote areas where access to power is limited.

Overall, the type of torch you choose will depend on your specific needs and the type of outdoor activities you will be participating in. No matter which type you choose, it’s important to ensure that it is reliable and will provide enough light in the dark.
